Istanbul's New Airport Has Opened
The first phase of Istanbul Airport was opened to flights with the program attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The new airport, which will be the largest and most modern airport in the world, hosted a major opening on 29 October 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also announced the official name of the new airport at the ceremony.
Many guests participated from politics, arts, sports and business world to the ceremony.
THE PRESIDENT ANNOUNCED THE NAME OF THE NEW AIRPORT IS “ISTANBUL”
In his speech, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the name of the Airport “Istanbul” and he added that “Istanbul is not only our city, it is the most valuable brand of our country. Istanbul is an invaluable pearl which is located between two seas.

Designed and built with state-of-the-art technology. Transportation will be provided in highway, sea and alternative system and many innovations will be signed. The investment cost 10 billion 247 thousand Euros. With its architectural, business, construction and financing, the facial flux of our country will be an example in the world. Distinguished guests have been geographically located in strategic position throughout Istanbul. Istanbul Airport was the most important transit center. It links 60 countries to economies of 20 trillion. With this airport, we are moving the lock way further. We see it as a great service not only for our country, but also for our region and the world.
With its leadership in the field of technology, it will operate as a smart airport. European airspace will need to be rearranged. The route of the flights will vary greatly. Today, the first phase of the airport with a capacity of 90 million passengers will start operating. The terminal size of Istanbul 3rd Airport is 1.3 million square meters and the total construction area is 76.5 million square meters. When all phases are completed, Istanbul 3rd Airport will be the world's largest airport with 6 independent tracks, 500 aircraft capacity 70 thousand cars open and closed parking lots and 200 million passengers annually. After the completion of the move from the Ataturk Airport, the airport will be able to make flights to more than 350 destinations and serve 250 Airline Companies.
THE AIRPORT WILL BE THE MOST CROWDED AIRPORT IN THE WORLD!
Istanbul's 3rd Airport, in addition to its size, has many firsts in aviation with its other features. The construction of the new airport, which has been completed in a record period of about 5 years, attracts attention with its 76.5 million square meter face measurement, which is 2 times bigger than the most crowded airports in the world. The main terminal building of the airport, 1.3 million square meters, will be the world's largest terminal building under one roof. The terminal building will include a duty-free area with Bosphorus view of Istanbul.
150 BUSES WILL SERVE AT THE AIRPORT
There are different transportation alternatives to Istanbul's 3rd Airport. While it is possible to reach the airport by bus from different points of the city, the airport will also be able reached there by rail in the next days.
